New music from the Funk Doc is in the works.
Redman took to Twitter last night to announce the August release of Muddy Waters 2: The Preload EP, a teaser project to be followed by the release of the highly-anticipated Muddy Waters 2 in the fall. Red has apparently been working on the sequel intermittently for the past four years.
The original, gold-certified Muddy Waters album was released in 1996 and helped establish him in the game, showcasing his unique style over innovative production from himself, Rockwilder and Erick Sermon.
Redman is currently on the road with Method Man for the “Burning Kush” tour. Stay tuned for more information on both projects.
[Update: Redman Confirms Muddy Waters 2 & Announces Blackout! 3]
Good new, folks. In a recent interview with MTV, Redman confirmed his upcoming solo project Muddy Waters 2, as well as a third instalment in his Blackout! album series with Method Man and a sequel to their classic buddy stoner flick “How High”.
“We gon’ do Blackout! 3”, says Redman. “RZA, Erick Sermon, get y’all asses up! Rockwilder, get yo muthafuckin’ ass up! We need a Blackout! 3 album. Once we get our beats from RZA, Erick Sermon and Rockwilder, then we can take other producers that wanna be a part of the Redman and Method Man experience.”
Although he and Meth don’t own the rights to their “How High” characters, he’s already begun development.
“I wrote that shit on February 9, 2014, the storyboard, plot summary,” he says. “I can’t even show y’all that right now. Our ideas was the first “How High”, from movies that we liked and our ideas so come on, that shit is right here just to let y’all know I don’t play no games. The High How 2, hopefully we could do that under Universal, if not, we gonna do our own movie under our own shit and it will be heavily marijuana related.”
As for Muddy Waters 2, here’s what he had to say:
“I’m coming out with a Muddy Waters 2. It’s gon’ be called Even Muddier. I’m not trying to top the Muddy Waters album. What I’m doing by naming it Muddy Waters 2 is to let you relive that ’90s kind of sound and experience. It’s not gonna be sounding too much New Wave. Not too much high hats, you know the fast high hats? None of that… I’m using samples, so that’s why I’m calling it Muddy Waters 2: Even Fuckin’ Muddier.” -HOTHIPHOP
